Drift Inn-Weather in Belize

What is the weather like in Belize?

Weather in Belize

Weather in Belize is great for any vacation you might have on plan . The weather down here is subtropical . The summers are long, hot, wet, and overcast; the winters are warm and mostly clear; and it is oppressive year round. Weather in Belize is a dream, or at least that is what John stated in this video.

Belize has something to offer you any time of the year. No month is too hot or too cold here. Normally when it rains, it only rains late at night or early in the morning. The sun shines in the afternoon which is perfect for a swim or any other activity you want to do.

Summer Days

The best sunny days in San Pedro are in summer. Summers in other parts of the world can be unbearably hot but May and early June in Belize feature nearly perfect weather, with long, hot sunny days that never scorch. Temperatures in Belize hover around the high 80s F. It’s warm enough to comfortably enjoy outdoor activities without the oppressive heat often found in summer in the United States. The best way to spend a sunny day is going up to Secret Beach .

Does it get cold in San Pedro?

Most of the time it doesn’t. San Pedro only gets a bit colder when it rains (around 70-75 F). When these days arrive everyone goes on a scavenger hunt looking for jackets and hats. The low temperatures normally last at most a week during one of Belize’s “cold fronts” where wind comes from the north. These chillier days are often welcomed by tourists, who are more acclimated to these temperatures. San Pedro is pretty hot, but we have the sea breeze. Belize’s mountains and higher regions are often cooler. And, we still have very high humidity, so it does feel colder at times.

Rainy Season

The rainy season on the island is something locals love as this island gets super hot but for tourists don’t as most of them are here for a tan. This season, beginning in June, is characterized by more frequent precipitation. Generally, rain showers can be expected during the early morning hours and brief downbursts during the hottest part of the afternoon. Rain showers are not seen that much during this season because the weather here in Belize is a bit crazy as it changes super fast, Weather channel could tell you it will be raining all day but you only see showers for one hour. We have had weeks of rain and it affects us a lot because most tourists are here for the sun.

Hurricane Season

Hurricane season from June until mid-November. However, historically, most hurricanes occur between August and October in Belize. Thanks to NEMO, our National Emergency Management Organization, Belize has a thorough emergency plan ready to be enacted in the event of a hurricane. Hurricanes form over a period of several days and even weeks. The path of the storm is tracked and predicted using the latest technology which enables the areas to be affected ample time to prepare for the storm. We have not had many hurricanes pass Belize in the past several years. Our Barrier Reef and location keep it from being on the typical hurricane path. Although we receive little hurricane activity most years, it is our slow season for tourism in Belize. If you’re wanting more attention from your tour guides and more space to move about the country and island, come during this time!

Dry Season

August is known as the driest month of  Belize because the country experiences in a few weeks of reduced precipitation. Because of this dry season coincides with the low tourist season travelers can take advantage of deep discounts on popular activities and tours. The best place where you could visit is Drift Inn Belize offering you great tours to the best snorkeling and diving spots and also great trips to the mainland.
