Hailey, one of the owners, helped connect me with the dive shop located literally right behind the hotel (Chuck and Robbie’s - which I later learned is the best outfit around) for my advanced certification. Stephanie made sure we had everything we needed during the stay, even after I accidentally poured a whole pineapple drink on the hotel laptop and crashed it! Mike and Eldon are awesome souls to hang out with in the evening and spend their days making sure the property is pristine.
Donna, the other owner, even invited us to her inland camp to spend a few days after check-out. Wish we could have indulged, but Christmas and family obligations didn’t afford a travel extension. The hotel made a great home-base to explore pretty much everything the area has to offer. Location was perfect. Most attractions in San Pedro are an easy walk, and the ferry to other areas such as Caye Caulker, is a few hundred yards south along the beach.
Golf cart rentals are available from a grocery just up the street as well as several other places. We arranged one at the airport from Mike’s Golf Cart Rental, and were not disappointed. You’ll need one at some point to get out to Secret Beach and explore other parts of the island, but there were days when we didn't use ours at all. Would probably rent one ad-hoc next time rather than for the whole trip.
One final point worth mentioning – I’m a US citizen, and I was initially concerned about travelling during a pandemic. Navigating the Belizean entry requirements was a walk in the park; the hotel made sure we knew exactly what preparations to make, and when. I felt safer from COVID in the busiest areas I visited in Belize than I do walking down the emptiest streets through my suburban neighborhood back home.
Wear a mask; wash your hands. Buy some beer to enjoy in the courtyard with staff and other guests after curfew - if one is in effect. After a full day of tropical adventures, it probably won’t take many before you’re off to sleep in preparation for the next day anyway. Travelling to Belize right now is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The crowds are thin, the service is awesome, and the businesses are grateful for your presence. I'm strongly considering taking this place up on its monthly special for travelers working remotely. More

I stayed in the female dorm at Drift Inn for 5 nights.
Accommodation: The beds are comfortable, but get quite warm and noisy with the plastic mattress cover.... read more The toilets and showers are cleaned daily, but the shower curtain is short, so water would often flood the hallway, making the floor slippery. There are lockers in the dorm, but they are small, so it can get messy with everyone's stuff lying around. Most people were tidy though.
Staff: All of the staff were really nice and helpful, but I didn't feel that Hailey (the owner) was very helpful or professional when asked questions. Another guest was locked out of the building because Hailey forgot to give her the code when she checked in. I was checked in by a staff member who was much more through and professional.
Environment: The hostel is busy with guests, who are generally really nice. The kitchen is small, but serves coffee in the morning and filtered water all day.

We were still able to keep our original room so we didn’t have to move all of our belongings. This was a level of service I had not experienced even at 5 star hotel stays. After multiple death threats I retired to my room and spent the night nursing my wounds and having difficulty sleeping because I didn’t feel safe. Neither owner, Donna or Hailey ever reached out to me to find out if I was OK or to get my side of the story. Instead I found out later that I had been trespassed from the property for getting into a fight when in reality I was protected my property! I had valuables in my backpack. Essentially I was treated with a lack of respect and concern. No effort was made to address my concerns for my safety. This place allows locals who don’t even pay to stay there and hang out. Then when one of these locals commits a crime they don’t care. Stay here at your own risk!!! More
