Vaccinations and Visiting Belize

International Travel: Immunized and non-vaccinated travelers

Belize is one of the safest countries to travel to this year due to how our government handles the pandemic. Please follow guidelines and do research before traveling to ensure you have a stress-free vacation.

Immunized / Vaccinated Travelers

Vaccinated visitors to Belize are allowed to enter the country without a negative PCR/Rapid COVID Test. This regulation came into effect February 2021. It specifies that passengers who reach Belize via the airport must show evidence of their COVID immunization, like a COVID-19 Vaccination Card.

Non-Vaccinated Travelers

Travelers that are not vaccinated yet must present a negative test:
  • Negative PCR Test within 96 hours (4 days) of arrival OR
  • Negative Rapid Antigen Test within 48 hours (2 days) of arrival

Travelers receive tests at the Belize airport if they do not present a negative test at arrival. The tests at the airport cost $50 USD and are paid in cash.

Upon departure, people traveling to the United States and other countries may need tested before leaving. Find out where to get a COVID Test in Belize before traveling to America (USA).

When Can I Enter Belize after my Vaccination?

You must enter the country a minimum of 14 days after your final vaccine is complete. Your body needs time to produce antibodies, so once this time has passed, you can travel!

Belize 1-2-3 Entry requirements

Travel to Belize is as easy as one, two, three.

  • First, plan your visit. You must book your stay in a Gold Standard Hotel.
  • Second, get tested or have your vaccination card in-hand.
  • Third, follow the current regulations in Belize like curfews, mask ordinances, gathering sizes.

So, expect to have your temperature taken and hands sanitized frequently. Bring enough masks for your stay and have fun! Recently updated: May 2021.

What are the country rules/regulations?

Masks are required and we have a curfew in Belize. As of now, there are not special rules for vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated people or tourists vs. locals. There are hefty fines for violating the regulations, so follow the rules.

Although it appears strict, our regulations are more relaxed now than in the past. Previously, we had an 8 pm curfew. Now, as of May 2021, it’s 10pm and midnight on the weekends!

Regardless the regulations, Belize (and Ambergris Caye in particular) is a dream destination you will love to explore. For example, start drinking earlier in the day. Who cares where it is 5 PM? You are on vacation.

The exact rules change monthly. To check the most recent regulations look at the Belize Press Office.

What are the vaccination rates in Belize?

The vaccine campaign in Belize is already underway. The elderly, frontline workers, teachers, and people working in tourism received their first shots. Because the first shot is all most people received so far, we have a low full vaccination rate.

Now, we hope to have a high percentage of our population fully vaccinated by the end of the summer 2021.

Leaving for Your Next Destination

If you travel from Belize to the United States, a negative Rapid COVID-19 Test is required for both vaccinated and non-vaccinated travelers (updated May 2021).

Now, be sure to research both directions of your travel plans. Each country treats the pandemic differently, so know the rules when traveling abroad and returning home.

So, what are you waiting for? Now is the time to get “vaxed & waxed” and book your flight to Belize!!
