48 Hours in San Pedro
You might not be able to see all of Belize in a couple of days, but if you stick to the islands you’ll surely be in for a treat. Here’s a flexible itinerary for a short visit where you can switch up the days and activities depending on your flight and the weather.
Get Acquainted with the Island
Depending on what time you fly in, you’ll probably not arrive until the afternoon or evening. For this reason, the first night is ideal for getting acquainted with the local bars and restaurants. With just 48 hours in San Pedro, you’ll want to make the most out of your few meals! One of the best restaurants providing local cuisine on the island is Elvi’s Kitchen. It is a little pricey, but the food is absolutely delicious and worth it. I’ve tried the coconut curry, their rice and beans with stewed chicken, as well as many seafood appetizers. All were fantastic.
If you’re on a budget, the park has great local street food where you can order burritos, shrimp tacos, and
more for under $10USD. Another option, Waruguma, would be a mid-range option with its famous lobster burrito and great ceviche. For more cheap food options, click here.
After dinner, you can try bar hopping and enjoy one of many nightly events on the island. Great bars and night clubs can be found around Central Park and along the beach near Drift Inn hotel.
Caye Caulker Extravaganza
During a short visit, you’ll want to get the best bang for your buck and the most out of your time. Take
a full-day snorkel and Caye Caulker trip, and you’ll see plenty of sea life, the corals, and enjoy a day out on the
boat. Visit the sister island to San Pedro and stop at 3 snorkel stops including Hol-Chan, Shark Ray Alley, and a third stop (captains choice). Snorkel gear is provided and you’ll have rum punch, water, and a snack on the boat.

After a day on the boat, you may feel too tired to go out. That’s okay, you can relax if you want. If not, check out one of the nightly activities and try out more bars. The main activities on the island are: snorkel/diving, relaxing, and drinking. You can’t drink and drive, so choose your two!
Secret Beach
This can be your day of complete relaxation, with a bit of fun! Get a 24-hour golf-cart rental in the morning (or night before). Next, take the crazy dirt road north to Secret Beach over the bridge. This will have you bumping around until you make it to paradise.
My favourite bars at the beach are Secret Paradise and Blue Bayou. Be sure to bring some drinks with you for the ride and a speaker to jam for the 30-45 minute ride out there! If the dirt road option does not sound appealing, you can get a shuttle to Secret Beach
as well!
