Beach, Please Enjoy Your Stay
The selected beachfront areas are destinations that are either easy to reach or worth the effort to get to. Although the beaches on Ambergris Caye is not what we are known for, we have some worth visiting! The island is better known for the Belize Barrier Reef with world-class diving, snorkeling, and fishing! Explore all of Ambergris Caye and what San Pedro has to offer. We hope you enjoy the island!
The Sandbar (near Secret Beach)
Just a few minutes away from the marvellous secret beach there is the Sandbar is this amazing turquoise shallow water where you could set out your table right in the middle of the water and play some games. To get there you will need to go by boat ride as there is no open road to that area. Book a tour to Secret Beach with Drift Inn and you’ll get to see it!
Tranquility Bay Beach
If you are wanting some quiet time and a relaxing atmosphere, tranquility bay is the perfect beach for that also the reef is so close that you can easily swim or kayak to the reef to snorkel. This place is far north, so the likelihood of meeting other people on the beach is slim. It is the most peaceful beach on Ambergris Caye. You can take a golf cart, but expect to drive over an hour. Bring your own snacks and beers in a cooler! Arriving to this beach by boat is a nicer option, contact us about planning a boat trip to Northern Ambergris Caye.
Beaches in San Pedro Town
Boca del Rio Beachfront
First, the Boca del Rio beach is where many locals gather every weekend to enjoy the water. It is a really nice place to be with your family and friends. This beach on the weekends is packed with golf carts as locals bask in the sun and take part in sports at the basketball court and the small area for beach soccer. There are covered seating areas and a no open container rule at this beach (not sure how well they uphold that).
Central Park
Next, the second-best spot would be around our central park. The beach is nice and next to the water taxi, you can watch local children play in the playground and get street food from vendors. The beach along central park is nice and sandy and generally well-kept. You can walk right in and wade out into the Caribbean Sea at your arrival to the island.
Another great aspect to the Central Park location is getting a picture with the sign. To see other locations for great photos in San Pedro click here!
Ramon's Village
Then, just a mile from the central park isone of the best resorts on the island, Ramon’s Village. Ramon’s is a private resort, but their white sandy beach is open to the public. You can grab lunch or drinks from their restaurant, Mambo, or bar as well. They are welcoming to outside guests.
Palapa Bar
Finally, for around town, the Palapa Bar (right in front of Drift Inn and over the water) features a wrap around dock with stairs to get into the water. Although this is not a “beach” persay, it is one of the best spots to get into the water in town. They can bring you food and drinks to wherever you’re sitting around the property. If you choose to eat while there – we’d suggest their jalapenos poppers and their fajitas!
Best Beaches on Ambergris Caye - South
Island Wonder Beach Club (Formerly South Beach)
If you are headed south, don’t miss out on Island Wonder. The restaurant is Garifuna, so you’ll get a cultural experience unlike most of what you’ll find around the rest of the island. Check out this blog post to find out more about Garifuna in Belize. In addition to the cultural aspect, the location has a great ambiance. We’ve never seen this location crowded, so this is a lovely beach on Ambergris Caye is kind of a hidden gem south of town. You can soak in the sun, or stay under the bars rooftop to avoid it!
